The Leonard and Claire Tow Center for the Performing Arts
and Brooklyn College's entrance at Campus Road and Hillel Place
The Leonard & Claire Tow Center for the Performing Arts is now open for the 2018-2019 season at Brooklyn College. This newly completed facility offers the college's School of Visual, Media and Performing Arts programs an outstanding set of venues, including a state-of-the-art academic theater, rehearsal and performance spaces.
The new building creates a home with expanded facilities for the Conservatory of Music and the Department of Theater, including the beautifully appointed, 225 seat Don Buchwald Theatre with its grand lobby and outdoor arboretum. In addition, the new wing housesrehearsal and performance spaces, set design and construction workshops, classrooms, meeting and music rehearsal rooms, as well as a modern, digital recording studio. Both the theatre and two performance spaces are outfitted with the latest digital laser projectors, giving the Department of FIlm the abilitiy to have its student thesis works screened with state-of-the-art presentation values.
The building is fully ADA accessible (including audio and visual assist technology in the Buchwald Theatre) while the achecture provides ADA access to all floors in the entire facility, including the Whitman Hall wing for the first time. The college's Performing Arts Center complex is the first LEED-certified, sustainable building on the campus, incorporating low water-use rest rooms appliances, recycled materials and highly efficient HVAC and lighting systems.
The surrounding site has been reconstructed to incorporate a new campus gateway at Hillel Place and Campus Road and beautifully landscaped, expansive arboretum that boasts drought-resistant planting, generous seating areas and bicycle racks.
