Mac Wellman's "The Lesser Magoo"
Inspired by the biblical legend of Susanna, The Lesser Magoo is the final of four plays in Mac Wellman’s Crowtet cycle. From an article in the LA Times when the play first premiered, Wellman states "the world most of the time seems a very strange and complicated place to me, and I want to make plays that in some sense are as complicated and strange as the world we live in." That’s precisely how the play is experienced with mentions of the awful “unusualist” and a vast history of Crowe’s Dark Space, the play’s language twists and churns as fast as a 240 character Tweet.
With over 80 plays completed, and three Obie awards won, Mac Wellman is a poet, author, playwright and rabble rouser. He is also the Distinguished Professor of Playwriting at Brooklyn College.
