The 2nd Annual Virtual Media Festival

Leveraging the power of emerging media, the Department of Television, Radio and Emerging Media invites you to close your Zoom window and instead join us for an afternoon showcase of student work inside a web-based, three-dimensional virtual world. Using the ground-breaking platform Hubs, audiences can hop into avatars, mingle and talk in groups, dance to music, watch the screenings and participate in Q&A sessions, all from the comfort of an internet browser.

The festival will be set in a virtual Brooklyn College Quad, created with high res 4K 360 images of our very own campus. Logging into Hubs is as easy as starting a zoom call: use your headphones, navigate to the website, and with a few clicks you’ll be in your avatar talking naturally to friends and colleagues in a familiar and welcoming setting.

The 2nd Annual Virtual Media Festival will showcase work across all the areas and majors of TREM. We will screen short television programs in fiction and non-fiction categories, audio storytelling, video and audio works of journalism, and presentations of media studies scholarship.

In addition to the student work, audiences will have the opportunity to ‘world-hop’ and explore the Hubs universe. There will be music, dancing, and even a ‘Selfie Station’ where guests can use a virtual camera to take pictures of themselves. Graduates are invited to wear the special Hubs “Cap and Gown” avatar to celebrate this important milestone.
